Investigations and the Law
New York State Law
requires that any person, firm, company, partnership, limited liability
company, or corporation be licensed by the New York State Department of
State as a Private Investigator before engaging in the business of
furnishing or supplying for a fee any information as to the identity,
habits, conduct, movements, whereabouts, affiliations, associations,
transactions, reputation, personal character, or activities of any person
or group of persons.
In addition, Federal and New York State Laws require that background
investigations for the purpose of employment screening be
conducted in accordance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).
